Follow these instructions to find your computer or mobile device’s media access control address (MAC address). Resize an image html. A MAC address is a sequence of values written in pairs. Port: Fa4/0/23, Mac Address: 0004.0ff.ffff, Vendor: Asus Network Technologies, Inc. I want to mention that Wireshark and IEEE provides a list that is a flat file so you can choose to build your own mapping without using the API if you dont want to depend on Internet connectivity for this.

Once you click the “Recover Unsaved Presentations” option, a directory containing unsaved files will open. Corporation You can also recover “unsaved PowerPoint files” by going to File –> Recent –> Recover Unsaved Presentations (see the bottom right corner of the Recent tab).

This post was extremely helpful, thanks itdownsouth:) I used show interface to find MAC addresses on our switches (reason for this is poor network documentation and mis-labeled switchports and wall jacks.). Mac I took the MAC addresses that I could not locate the hosts or ip addresses for, ran arp -a to list the addressmac list, then one by one, nbtstat -A for each IP address I matched a MAC to from the unlabeled ports. Tedious, but found 5 or 6 now (seeing hexadecimal thoughts now though.).

I understand the issues in attempting to use a MAC address to locate a device from outside of its local network. What puzzles me is how Honeywell Total Connect does this with their WiFi connected thermostats. The hardware configuration is: a Honeywell WiFi thermostat that is WiFi connected to a Netgear N600 router which uses DHCP to assign an IP adddress. The router is connected to Comcast with a Motorola SB6120 modem. Comcast assigns a system wide (dynamic) IP.

Keep in mind, these instructions are for networks that have little to no routing, pretty much all layer 2 - flat network type. With routing, you may be able to obtain more information off your routers and/or switches (if MLS). So once in the switch of choice, there were two commands to play with: show mac-address and show mac-address ethernetX (where X = port number) We have HP switches currently, so for Cisco you would use: show mac-address fastethernet0/X (where X = port number) ^^^CORRECTION: show mac address-table is the Cisco command! ^^^ If you use the interface-specific version of the command, you will get a list of MAC addresses learned through that port. With this, all you have to do is find one of the MAC addresses listed here on the text document from NMAPs output, and you'll know that switchport is going to that office (wherever that node is located). You can then start building a spreadsheet or database with the switch name/location, port number, IP addresses, hostnames, and MAC addresses associated with that port (or you can just use whatever information you need to keep track of what is going where).
